About Me

JinHang Qiao(Nikki Qiao)

My work is very diverse. I do portrait, landscape, commercial, fashion, and conceptual photography. I take the most pleasure in my conceptual work.

My style is to create something unusual, evocative, and often surreal. I enjoy unfolding a story through my conceptual work.

I heed little attention to the boundaries or conventional aesthetics associated with traditional or modern photography.

Sometimes I get misunderstood; however, that doesnt pull me back or stop me from creating new worlds through my images. Rather, I create my own visions as I see fit. It fascinates me how differently people can interpret my images. I enjoy being able to involve viewers emotions, pull them away from logical reality and place them into my stories.

Project Statement

In fact, this is a suicide prevention book guide. The book is divided into two parts.

Part one is composed of images of suicides by different methods. I believe most of us have considered and desired for death at some point of our lives. People do not commit suicide because they want to; it happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain. It is an unconscious activity because when at that stage a person is not really making a decision consciously or rationally, but being pushed to the edge of abyss by depression and pain. The first part of the book is to let people see how painful it is committing suicide physically. I hope the pictures can shock them and pull them back from the edge and realize what they are really getting themselves into.

Part two contains of pictures of all my models from the suicide images being themselves. All the photos from part two are spontaneous moments captured during my conversations with them. I want people to see the real side of these models; they are subjects instead of objects. I want the viewers to get to know my models as individuals and see they are genuinely positive and happy people. I hope after seeing the second part of the book, the readers are motivated and realize that its wonderful to be alive, and life is good.
